Two Little Monkeys is a family run, small-batch, bean-to-bar chocolate maker that runs educational cacao tours for tourists from around the world. As they started their business in 2015, their branding and packaging design needed to be updated to match their company’s growth and enable production on a larger scale. They envisioned changing their black-ink, vintage style packaging to something more vibrant and colorful to stand out from the competition and be attractive to both tourists and the local market. They also wanted to choose a packaging type that was sealable to protect from humidity and increase longevity of their products. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourist market they relied on for business disappeared so they needed to come up with a strategy for selling to the local market, which meant making their marketing materials and website bilingual and pricing their products at a lower cost. They also wanted to develop an online store and Instagram strategy to connect with local buyers.

Through strategy meetings and several conversations, we dove deep into Two Little Monkey’s mission, goals, vision and sketched out some ideas for a new, refreshed logo that still contains several original design elements. Some of the most important elements they wanted to bring into their design were: sophistication & fun; emphasis on the local nature and the nearby iconic Arenal Volcano; small batch, family run, craft chocolate; clean and organic ingredients and appreciation for nature; celebration of the flavor notes of bean-to-bar chocolate; and education.
